In Retrospect:

Pariah Games - Book Reviews
05.2006

A book review column is something I have often wanted to do. In fact, in the past I submitted a number of book reviews to Garagegames on the various programming and game books I have read

I have a rather extensive library as my wife and my empty bank account can attest. For me, all books represent an effort of some magnitude. Even books that are often condemned in the market are still a success for the writer. It takes a great deal of effort to write a book and even more effort to see it published. People who have never done it rarely realize the amount of work involved.

So for my book reviews I intend to point out the good in the book, where it succeeded. Perhaps the book has many failed chapters, places where the reader gets lost, or for the more technically minded, the book simply hasn't presented the desired amount of depth.

There is already enough negativity in the world. I spread a good bit of it myself from time to time. So I'm going to avoid that.

I'm also going to avoid a rating system. I used one in some earlier work and I always felt it robbed the author of his just review. I'm sorry, to those of you who are looking for a fast fix, but I intend my reviews to be read, not glossed over. Think of it as my personal rebellion against a world that is obsessed with speed at any price.

So much for my sales pitch!

The reviews will be placed here as I complete them. The titles will be chosen by me, on my schedule, and are solely my opinion. I'm not going to claim a superior position to the books I review. I read them. I tell you what I liked about them, and you can decide for yourself if they merit looking at.

If you don't see a book reviewed that you would like me to look at, send an email to webmaster AT pariahgames DOT com

(I'd like to make that a regular link for all of you, but you know how much spam I'll find in there if I do!)

If you are a book publisher and want me to review your book you can drop me a line at the same address. You ship it and I read it. I only require that I get to keep the book after I've read it. Trust me, You wouldn't want it back after I've gone over it, anyway. The binding is generally shot and I mark important passages...

But, you will be assured of a positive review, since that is all I intend to give!
