Movies are fun. And depending how how you like to spend your time they can be entertaining, enlightening,
or an incredible waste of time. Personally I like sci-fi and fantasy movies and I have little time for
reality, horror, tear jerkers, or feel good movies. I occassionally like a comedy, but most of the
time it needs an element of the fantastic in it to get me to watch.
I rarely venture out to pay full price for a movie - Lord of the Rings being an exception. By the time the
Star Wars franchise reached its second trilogy I was pretty much done with that as well. I thought the
Star Trek franchise should have pursued a more aggressive action format. I like Wrath of Khan a lot more
than saving the whales. I wanted to see another Next Generation movie and might have even tried out a Deep
Space Nine offering.
I do like to see games going to movies, and movies going to games. Unfortunately, in most cases the
transition to the big screen only serves to highlight the major differences between film and games.
Interactivity often makes a good game into a dull movie. And trying to take a highly suspenseful movie
from the big screen to the console can create major headaches if the action is too predictable.
With that said, I'm going to take a shot on making comments on the various movie<-->game links that
are out there. So if it is going from movies to games, or from games to movies I'll give you my
opinion on the flick, and whether it is something you might want to sit through.
Hopefully, I will be fairly consistent about how I review. So if you like my picks or hate my picks you
can still figure out which ones to see!
The reviews will be placed here as I complete them. The titles will be chosen by me,
on my schedule, and are solely my opinion. I'm no professional reviewer and I'm not planning on waxing
poetic on the acting ability of the various characters. I'm more interested in what a game developer is
interested in - how well did the film/game transition work. Is a sequel to this property likely to make
a good transition?
If you don't see a movie reviewed that you would like me to look at, send an email to
webmaster AT pariahgames DOT com
(I'd like to make that a regular link for all of you, but you know how much spam I'll
find in there if I do!)
Where possible I watch on the big screen. If not, I usually rent the movies and watch on the giant TV.
I have a limited amount of time to review. Don't expect to see hundreds of flicks popping up here overnight.
One feature I am including is a link to allow you to purchase the movie. It will be in the left column of
the screen.
That's it. Now where did I put my popcorn...
