Changing the Site
08.26.2005

Sometimes you need to go with your strengths. Experimentation and reaching are good, but there needs to time left to do things that you are good at. A major change in the focus of this website is now underway. I am transitioning this site from one that has been reporting on the progress of a couple of games to reporting on how to make games, the tools for making games, and the process of game development...

One of my strengths is writing. I'm pretty good at it. I've been paid for it almost since I began doing it. I've written a fair amount of material and done quite a few different types of writing. I have written manuals for software packages, technical whitepapers, articles for game magazines, and translated text for games. Not to mention website articles for the fans of Adellion. I have written and published poerty, newpaper articles, and a three volume series on the ins and outs of a game engine. Recently, I've taken quite an interest in fantasy, sci-fi and mystery writing.

So when I took a look at my website I was suprised at how little I had done with it. I sort of expected to fill it with tons of material. I quickly realized that while I love writing there is a big difference between writing and rehasing the same material. I like the first and loath the second. Which is why so little was ever appearing on this site. It was being said elsewhere.

So it was kind of exciting when I got to planning a redesign for this website and I relaized that I would be putting up a lot of original material (and quite a bit of stuff I have done in the past an never got published.

The biggest challenge for me will be to write things one time. I expect several of the pieces I write to actually go in several different books - they apply and it would be negligent NOT to include them. But to make all the presentations consistent and to use the material to best advantage for the customer is the biggest challenge

So I am also going to redesign the forums - they weren't seeing any real traffic anyway. it will just be part of the overall project. Hopefully you will be able to give me useful feedback. That is a great advantage of an Internet bookstore. If you make a typo - you can correct it so the next reader doesn't see it! And the purchasers of the book can get an update with the corrections!

Tha't all for now folks. More when I have made some progress.
